Try used cloth diapers first.

Try used cloth diapers first.
Levon in one of his cloth diapers.

If you are on the fence about what kind of cloth diaper to use or just the use of cloth diapers all together try purchasing used cloth diapers.  Buying used cloth diapers is a great way to have a trail run to find the right fit for your baby.  You can purchase used diapers in a couple of different ways. One way is through a place like Ebay or Craigslist.  Another way is to go to a diaper consignment sale. A diaper consignment sale is a good way to go. People bring their gently used cloth diapers, diaper covers, pails etc. to sell to people who are fairly new to the cloth diaper world or just want to try it out with out the big expense.  One of the perks to buying at a diaper consignment is there are usually stipulations on what shape the diapers have to be in before they can be sold at the sale.

If the thought of used cloth diapers is unappealing you can wash your diapers using a technique called "Stripping" your diapers to strip them of residues and germs before use.

Stripping Diapers

1. Take your clean diapers and wash them on hot 2-3 times without detergent. Rinse them until the water runs clear and there are no suds left in the rinse water.

2. Wash your clean diapers on hot with a squirt of Dawn dish washing soap. BE CAREFUL! If you own a high efficiency washing machine, Dawn dish washing liquid is NOT a low sudsing, HE approved detergent. Check with your washing machine manufacturer before choosing this method of stripping your diapers.

Diaper consignment sale coming up in February at Mother Nurture in Lexington Ky.
